Famed SUPREMES Motown member Mary Wilson to Perform Live for UFTV Fundraiser
Join legendary vocalist and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Mary Wilson, a founding Supremes Motown member and recent ABC Dancing with the Stars contestant, for an unforgettable concert at the University of Findlay on Nov. 8 that will raise funds to support the student-run UFTV station.
Opening for Wilson will be Findlay band Flag City Rock & Soul Review.
Tickets are $45 at Marathon Center for the Performing Arts Box Office, and can be purchased at mcpatickets.org or by calling 419-423-2787. The event at Winebrenner Theological Seminary will kick off with a casual red-carpet photo opportunity for ticket holders from 6-6:45 p.m. The concert will start at 7 p.m. Also featured will be a silent auction with signed pieces from Mary Wilson.
Recognized as the longest member of the Supremes, Wilson founded the group with Florence Ballard and Diana Ross. Following the group’s phenomenal success in the 1960s and 1970s, Wilson released three solo albums and five singles. She also published two best-selling autobiographies, including “Dreamgirl: My Life As a Supreme,” which was a record-setter for sales in its genre, and “Supreme Faith: Someday We’ll be Together.”
Proceeds from the show will be used to purchase much-needed equipment for UFTV, which provides invaluable experiential learning for communication students.

Galen Jazz Flute
At age 9, Galen was given his first flute. Since then, he has crafted his own big and rich sound, and combined it with his spoken word talents, to captivate audiences.
Galen studied at the Berklee College of Music and holds a master’s degree in fine arts and education from Rutgers University. He has performed both internationally and domestically for more than 30 years. His performance portfolio includes greats such as Billy Taylor, Sonny Phillips, Gwen Guthrie, Jimmy Heath, Melba Moore, and Sun Ra. In addition to his stellar musical background, Galen is a riveting speaker on the topic of jazz and its historical significance. Because of his love of teaching, he always finds a way to incorporate instruction and direction for students who someday would like to develop a career in music. Matthew Shapiro is a spirited, charismatic speaker and consultant, born with cerebral palsy. He graduated in from Virginia Common Wealth University with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies, a BA in Sociology, and a minor in Psychology in 2013.
Matthew is the founder and CEO of 6 Wheels Consulting. He created and regularly hosts 6 Wheels Consulting Disability Podcasts.
When speaking, Matthew entertains and enlightens his audiences on how they can “become their own wrecking ball,” breaking free of their comfort zones and exceed their personal goals.
Matthew’s wheelchair was his safety net and leaving it caused him tremendous trepidation. He was not fully experiencing life. Through the persuasion a friend, he attended an event that changed his life FOREVER! He overcame his fears, placing his life in the hands of others. Now, he shares his secrets and strategies, allowing audiences to incorporate his messages into their own lives, breaking free from whatever “chair” is holding them back! His messages have won him the accolades of many. He was named Style Weekly’s Top 40 Under 40, profiled in Virginia Business Magazine and served the Obama Administration in the Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs.

University of Findlay’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Week 2019 will incorporate diversity and community service with several public events meant to honor the late civil rights activist and his work.
The University’s free MLK Celebration will be held at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 23 in the Winebrenner Building’s TLB Auditorium. Featured speakers will include alumna Ingrid Godfrey ’15, and students Sadia Akhter Aurna and Olunife Akinmolayan. The event will be live streamed on UFTV Productions’ YouTube page.
